Take a break from the crowds\, music\, and heat inside our cold theater and watch some awesome comedy from the best comedians in SD and LA! \nThis is San Diego’s most impressive free stand-up night. The lineup is a secret but it’s always stacked with comics who deliver. The show is equal parts Comedy and Community. Alex Petit\, the producer\, lives in Normal Heights and loves booking the best comics to share with his neighbors! \nDrinks and Food\nThe bar has beer\, wine\, cocktails\, and soft drinks provided by Snake Oil Cocktails. We also have some concessions and snacks for sale. There’s a suggested 2 drink minimum. Nobody’s keeping track but bar sales help keep the show free. \nCabeto’s Pops (organic home made\, hand-dipped ice cream) next door is giving 15% off to anyone with a ticket. \nZia’s Gourmet Pizza also next door is also sponsoring the event. What should we show? It was really a no brainer. How about the ultimate 80s spooky autumn film? No film has captured the aura of Halloween season during this nostalgic-drenched era better in our eyes\, and if you’ve somehow made it through your life without ever seeing it\, well\, you’ve got a real opportunity coming up. On October 30th\, join us\, along with our co-presenter Verbatim Books\, as we bring STEPHEN KING’S SILVER BULLET back to the big screen for our First Ever Halloween Bash\, with the director of the film\, Dan Attias\, joining us live for a post-film discussion. \nIn the small town of Tarker’s Mills\, Maine\, brutal killings start to plague the tight knit community. A young boy named Marty Coslaw (Corey Haim) is convinced that the murders are the doing of a werewolf\, and with the help of his Uncle Red (Gary Busey)\, they investigate the crimes. \nSTEPHEN KING’S SILVER BULLET is the rare horror film that’s just as concerned with creating a sense of wonder and enchantment as it is with delivering thrills. And that’s why it’s left such a lasting imprint on us over the years. Come help us welcome Mr. Attias to the stage post-film to hear how the film was created\, what it was like on set\, and what the process was like to collaborate with Stephen King and legendary producer Dino De Laurentiis. DESCRIPTION:On April 27\, 2024\, AABA will host the free musical walkabout\, Adams Avenue Unplugged. This event features over 60+ live musical performances inside restaurants\, bars\, and coffee houses along a two-mile stretch of Adams Avenue from University Heights on the West\, through Normal Heights\, and into parts of Kensington to the East. It also has performances outdoors at various patio locations\, including the Smitty’s Food Court and Lestat’s Coffeehouse. The AABA hopes to treat musical aficionados and foodies to the rich neighborhood culture. \nAdams Avenue Unplugged is free and open to the general public\, except for the headliner concert series. This year’s headliner is the California Guitar Trio! The historic Normal Heights United Church hosts the Main Stage and the Community Beer Garden where you can take advantage of the VIP Food & Drink Deal for $24. \nThis year we are proud to open Unplugged with a special Friday night screening about Lou Curtiss\, the festival’s founder. For our 4/20 selection this year\, there were a lot of directions we could have gone in. We figured sticking with the most lighthearted movie of all time about a stoner teen killing his parents and his best friends after his hand is possessed by the devil was the obvious path to take. \nRodman Flender’s IDLE HANDS has always been an enigma to us\, and that’s exactly why it’s remained one of our favorite films 25 years later. Its blend of the late-90s feel-good teen formula with body horror and seriously fucked-up subject matter is something you can toss around in your head for a very long time and never quite get a grip on completely. If you haven’t seen it before\, you’re in for a real treat. \nAs we’ve encouraged you to do for a while now\, please come dressed comfortably in your favorite sleepover attire or whatever floats your boat. We’d love to see some undead folks show up as well. Again\, we will also have an open section for you to bring your own chairs or blankets too. \nOn 4/16\, come kick your 4/20 celebration off with us as we celebrate one of the most underrated films of the 90s. \nIDLE HANDS Synopsis: \nAnton (Devon Sawa) would like very much to go about his daily routine of smoking weed\, watching TV\, and lusting after the girl across the street. The only thing stopping him is his demon-possessed right hand\, which seems determined to kill anyone it encounters. After dropping his parents and his best friends\, the hand sets its sights on Molly (Jessica Alba)\, the punk rock girl of Anton’s affection. Luckily for him\, Pnub and Mick (Elden Henson and Seth Green\, his recently deceased buds) are back from below ground to help the problem get solved. But they better get cracking\, because the hand is out for more than just a killing spree.
